The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.
Exodus 14:14
This verse is part of the story of the Israelites’ escape from Egypt. After Pharaoh finally let them go, he changed his mind and sent his army to pursue them. The Israelites found themselves trapped between Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea, feeling terrified and helpless. Moses was encouraging the people to trust God’s protection and not to fear or try to fight on their own. his moment shows Moses’ faith in God’s power and his role as the leader guiding God’s people through a crisis.
I would not have liked being in Moses shoes. To lead a group of complainers and groaners always whining just as they think things are not going their own way. At that moment they had taken their eyes of God and immediately the obstacles before them became insurmountable in their unbelief. But Moses, as a pillar of faith reassured them with these words of comfort “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still”. As you stand in front of your own “red sea” with fear at your back and seemingly no way out, the Lord in his faithfulness will intervene. You will not be caught, and you will not drown. As one of God’s children, as you surrender to Him and stand quietly, God will part your sea.
