In 1 John early Christians were facing challenges from false teachers who were denying core truths about Jesus and the Christian life. 1 John is written to encourage believers to live in the truth, love one another, and have confidence in their salvation.
What is the “secret” of victory over the world? 1 John 5:40 reveals this secret. Oh, how we are tempted in this world. There is always something that wants to force us to turn away from God. For me it is Facebook reels, Instagram feeds and mind-numbing YouTube videos. Only a man who is born of God really overcomes the world, because by faith he is able to rise above the noise all around him and see things in their true eternal perspective. We sometimes think those that seem to have it all together are the doctors, scientists, philosophers and professors but no, it is he who has faith, just a simple believer who see the eternal kingdom and not this temporary world.
